A DEPLETED and leg-weary Alstonville face a huge hurdle when they take on major premiers Richmond Rovers on their home turf at Nielson Park tonight in Far North Coast premier league soccer.

The Villa players have had three days to recover from their epic 7-4 loss to Coffs Harbour in the FFA Cup, and will be without several important players.

Joel Perkins, Zac Illife, Dan Baxter and Reece Bramley are all unavailable, but the good news is the return of defensive general Eamon Banks and possibly flanker Rick Hanna.

"It's a tough week for us but we have good depth and while we respect Rovers we don't fear them - we can be competitive against any side in the league," Alstonville coach Mark Ambler said.

Rovers will be missing influential midfield Russell Dent but have Andrew Casagrande returning and after some big wins in recent games are in good form.

With Villa undefeated in third place in the local comp and Rovers just a point behind, the winner will give themselves a chance of jumping to second and catching runaway league leader Byron Bay.

Kick-off is 8pm.
