Tough draw for Northern Conference in pennants finals

THE sectional draw for the newly-revamped 2016 top grade pennants finals hasn’t done locals any favours. In the two rounds at Nelson Bay on opening day, July 30, the Northern Conference will play powerhouse Metropolitan in both.

In the second day’s play, Northern will be up against Hunter.

Instead of the former 16 zones in the finals, the No 1s will have five “conferences”. Northern Rivers and Tweed-Byron districts make up the Northern Conference.

Play will be two rounds on Saturday opening day, a third round and semi-finals next day, with the finals on the Monday.

In the six lower grades, the Far North will provide two venues. Yamba and Maclean will host the No 3s, while Kingscliff and Cabarita Beach will cater for the No 7s.

The No 2s are at Ettalong, No 4s at Bomaderry and Berry, No 5s at Harbord, No 6s at Leeton and Narrandera.
