ALL Whites skipper Ryan Nelsen is on the verge of signing with Tottenham Hotspur from Blackburn after the English transfer window ended today.
Nelsen, who has played just one match this season, looks set to make the move after Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp talked about his desire to sign the 34-year-old just hours before the transfer window shut.
The move looks even more likely after Spurs loaned central defender Sebastien Bassong to Wolves opening up a spot in the defence for Nelsen while England's Daily Mail reports that Blackburn have cancelled the All White's current contract which was set to end next year.
Nelsen had been at Blackburn Rovers since the 2005 season having played 172 games for the Lancashire based club.
Before deadline closed Redknapp said he was interested in signing Nelsen.
"We just need to see whether I can take another central defender because I've got William Gallas out long-term through injury," he told the Daily Mail.
"I'm hoping to sign Ryan Nelsen on a free until the end of the season. I think he's a great competitor and a good sort to have at your club.
"Always liked him."
Transfer announcements can still be made after the window shuts however if Nelsen's contract has been axed by Blackburn then he can sign with another club whenever he wants.
Nelsen has played just one game for Blackburn this season after struggling with a knee injury he picked up last year.
Blackburn currently sit in the relegation zone while Tottenham are third on the English Premier League table after beating Wigan 3-1 today.
