Total fire ban today across the Far North Coast

A TOTAL fire ban is in force today across the Far North Coast.

Hot and dry westerly winds of up to 35km/h are pushing across the region ahead of a cold front later today. 

Two fires are currently burning across the region - one northwest of Rappville and the other around Mt Nardi, though they are under control.

The RFS has warned if people are going into the bush for the public holiday, to be very careful.

The fire danger risk is rated as Severe by the Rural Fire Service, while the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Fire Weather Warning.
