Top finish in NSW finals for Lismore Public School
LISMORE Public School has finished a commendable third in the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association Boys Basketball played in Bathurst last week.
Coach, Troy Davies said that his team went into the finals quietly confident.
"201 teams from across NSW were in the competition and our boys made the top eight," Davies said.
"In the quarter-finals, we won our first game against Franklin PS (Tumut) 46-13, putting us into the final four in NSW.
"We then played Sydney west team, Regentville and got off to a shocking start and at the end of the first quarter; we were down by 15-0. "But to the boys' credit they slowly clawed back and at the end of the day, for and against points were sufficient to place us 3rd, despite losing to them 36-20.
Finishing third is the best Lismore Public School has done in boys' basketball.
Three years ago, they finished fourth with Kingscliff is the only school in the Northern Rivers that has won.
Player Blair Moss commented on the speed of the game.
"Our defence wasn't good enough; we kept travelling but we weren't coming back with the ball," he said.
"They were very quick and we just didn't get back fast enough."
