Top day for fillies, fashionistas

FASHIONS on the field at the Ballina Boxing Day races were a lot like the races themselves.

For starters, both the well-dressed punters in yesterday's fashion contest and the horses who took part in the six-card race, have a number assigned to them.

Further, both the fashion contestants and the horses were sized up by the crowd before their respective contests.

And for a least a few punters, both the fashions in the field nominees and their favourite horse were backed purely on the basis of looks.

Yesterday's fashions on the field contest was one of the highlights on a Boxing Day race day that finally provided some decent weather for racegoers.

The sunny day gave the ladies the chance to don their best outfit and fascinator.

As a result, the 3000-strong crowd saw Lennox local Ally Priest-Tasker turn the most heads with her black hat and blue dress to take out the fashions on the field prize.
