Top bull rider to mount up
IT'S time for thrills and spills with bull riders to test their skills in the ring against the bucking beasts at this year's Kyogle Bull Ride Spectacular.
The 16th annual rodeo night, promoted by Northern Rivers Rodeo Promotion and affiliated National Rodeo Association, includes the Open Bull, Novice Bull Ride, Junior Bull Ride, Under-16 Bull Ride, Poddy Ride and a Local Poddy Ride.
The night will be held at the Kyogle showgrounds this Saturday, from 4.30pm, with gates opening at 3.30pm, Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for children, or $30 for a family ticket.
At the end of the night they'll be a shootout with the six highest scoring riders from the Open Bull event to face off in a winner-takes-all round.
The proceeds from this year's event will be distributed to the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service, Kyogle Rugby League Club, St John Ambulance, and Kyogle Rotary Club, in an effort to support local causes.
Organiser Gary Piggott said the event was always one of the biggest in town.
"It seems to be a very popular event," he said.
This year the event has attracted some talented local riders who will take to the ring along with champions and other title holders, Mr Piggott said.
"We've got a lot of good riders in Kyogle," he said.
Among those rising to the challenge will be Kyogle bull rider and Australian champion David Kennedy, who Mr Piggott said began his career riding in the poddy bull section at the Kyogle Bull Ride as a child.
