WHERE is the best place to start your day? The Spotted Pig, Alphadale, according to you.

We asked our online readers of The Northern Star where the best place to get breakfast on the Northern Rivers was, and by golly they answered.

Our Facebook readers suggested 20 different places in total across the region, and so we put those into a poll and let it go to vote to find the Top 10.

The Spotted Pig was the clear winner, taking out 28% of the vote.

POLL: Where's the best place for breakky in the region?

Owners Iohne Simpson and Emily Gray said they were very thankful to those who voted for them.

"It's nice to be recognised. We're very thankful to our locals and our regulars for doing this for us," Ms Simpson said.

Ms Simpson, who was trained in the UK at a Michelin-style pub before working throughout Europe, moved to the Northern Rivers following a decade working in Brisbane.

She said both herself and Ms Grey, who grew up in Tuntable Creek, moved to the region for the food.

'The local produce and the seasonality - It's what we're passionate about," Ms Simpson said.

At The Spotted Pig, which the pair opened just over a year ago, they use as much local produce as possible - and keep a board up in the café with all the names of their local producers, so their customers know where their food has come from.

"It's very important (to our customers) to know that they're eating local," she said.

From their coffee, from Newrybar's Zentvelds Coffee, to their eggs, delivered each week by Christine from Numulgi, it's in the ethos of The Spotted Pig's to support the community, Ms Simpson said.

"It's important to us to be part of the community," she added.

That even comes down to Ms Gray's exceptional ability to remember names and coffee orders of their regulars, Ms Simpson said.

"I don't know how she does it!"

The Spotted Pig's pick for breakky:

Iohne: The Scotch Eggs with an expresso

Emily: The Local Field Mushrooms with spinach and feta plus an expresso.
