Couple's heartbreak over having to bury second child

AT JUST 25, Bianca Schanz and fiancé Jacob Hails have already buried one child.

Now they have to say goodbye to another.

On Friday, February 24, James Douglas Hails was stillborn. His brother Logan died at 28 weeks in 2014.

Toowoomba woman Ms Schanz, who desperately wants children, is hoping something is wrong with her that explains their misfortune.

"I didn't think I could go through it twice but I'm still standing. It's incredibly unfair but people have it worse," she said.

"There are so many people it happens to yet it's such a heavy topic and not openly talked about."

Ms Schanz said it was traumatising to carry both children to full-term only to leave hospital without them.

"You don't want to go through it once, you don't want it to happen twice," she said.

"After Logan, we decided to wait for two and a half years and now we're here without James.

"We are now going through processes to have some tests and make sure everything is okay but I'm hoping there's something wrong with me so I know why this keeps happening."

Ms Schanz hoped by sharing her story she encouraged other expecting parents to do the same.

"It is the worst feeling especially when you are in the hospital ward and see the other babies," she said.

"I don't even have words for it. The first time it was hard. Everything was going super duper the second time and we were really excited. Even though it was in the back of my head, I didn't expect it."

The couple is determined to try again for children.

"I've always wanted babies unless I get told I can't," Ms Schanz said. "I'm not going to stop trying. Even if there is something wrong with us, there are other options to raise a child."

The community is rallying together to help the young couple with funeral costs.

A GoFundMe account was started which raised more than $1000 in a few hours.
