Helicopter hurtles towards Toowoomba man and his family
TOOWOOMBA businessman Bob Carroll's Fijian holiday is back in full swing after witnessing a horrifying helicopter crash.
The Australian Events director was enjoying a day out on Treasure Island when a helicopter hurtled out of control, landing just metres away from where his family was dining.
The Eurocopter AS350 was trying to land on a helipad when a gust of wind swept it into a tree beside a seaside swimming pool.
Mr Carroll described the crash in a post on Facebook.
"A beautiful day trip to Treasure Island changed dramatically as an inbound helicopter attempting to land on the Treasure Island helipad only 50m from where we were dining caught a wind gust that sent it into a tree and then crashing into another tree right next to the pool," he said.
He said he couldn't believe his eyes.
"Holy s**t! Bizarreo and freaky and scary but thank god all got out of the chopper and we are all okay.
"Just got to say that Fiji is a beautiful place and this was a freak accident that could have happened anywhere.
"I can feel another Fiji Bitter coming on."
All seven onboard the chopper survived unhurt and the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji declared the crash an accident.
