Police appeal for better driver safety

AT LEAST three people were injured in a shocking weekend on Northern Rivers roads.

Police said they dealt with six crashes between Sunday and Monday morning alone.

The most serious of these left a 31-year-old man injured when his BMW and a Honda crashed at the junction of the Coast Road and Shelly Beach Road, East Ballina, at 3pm on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter flew two motorcycle accident victims to hospital.

The accidents happened within three hours of each other.

One, at 3.05pm, was a 24-year-old man, from 10km south-west of Toonumbar Dam.

The other, at 5.50pm, was a 19-year-old man from the Emu Creek Extreme Off-Road Park, between Drake and Tenterfield.

A crash about 8am on the Woodburn-Evans Head Road yesterday blocked traffic for some time, although the driver aged in his 30s escaped injury. A Kyogle teen, 15, suffered suspected fractures to his foot after a car ran over it at Cedar Point, 250 metres east of Bentley Road, between 3am and 4.40am on Saturday. Police said the driver may not have known the boy was there.
