Scott had 'inoperable brain cancer'

AN autopsy on Tony Scott will be carried out on Monday (20.08.12).

The 'Top Gun' director was found dead after jumping from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles on Sunday (19.08.12) and authorities have confirmed they will do their post-mortem examination today, following reports he had inoperable brain cancer.

Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter stated the filmmaker's shocking passing "was reported as a suicide" and added that "there was a note found at [Tony's] office by friends".

A source has also told ABC News that Tony had brain cancer although no further details about his medical health have been revealed.

The 68-year-old British-born director was brother to 'Prometheus' director Ridley Scott and is best known for his action films which include 'Beverly Hills Cop II' and 'Enemy of the State'.

On Sunday, he was seen parking his car on the cable-suspension bridge which connects the port district of San Pedro to Terminal Island before jumping into the water at 12:30 local time.

His body was recovered from the harbour less than three hours later.

Katherine Rowe, the director's spokesperson, issued a statement saying: "I can confirm that Tony Scott has indeed passed away. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time."

Tony often worked with Denzel Washington, most recently in 2010's 'Unstoppable', and had also made a name for himself in television.

He was executive producer of two popular CBS dramas 'Numb3rs' and 'The Good Wife' with his brother Ridley.

Tony is believed to have been working on a 'Top Gun' sequel with Tom Cruise - who he also worked with on 'Days of Thunder' - at the time of his death.
