Tony Abbott delays holiday to help fight NSW fires
OPPOSITION Leader Tony Abbott will head to Nowra to help fight fires with the Davidson Rural Fire Brigade today.
Mr Abbott has been a member of the fire brigade since 2000, has delayed a planned holiday for three days to help with the effort in New South Wales.
In his absence, Nationals Leader Warren Truss will take on the Acting Leader of the Opposition role, and will visit Tasmania on Thursday to see fire-affected areas.
Mr Abbott said he urged all people living in areas facing fire risk to monitor emergency messages, activate fire plans and stay safe.
Mr Truss' visit to Tasmania follows Prime Minister Julia Gillard's visit to the Apple Isle earlier in the week.
