Ton destroys Casino hopes
CASINO have joined Lismore and Ballina as first-round victims in the SCG Cup State cricket knockout.
They were no match for Tweed at Oakes Oval, Lismore, with the northern visitors making 270 and Casino bowled out for 150.
Tweed batsman Tait Burns did most of the damage with 95 to follow up his 105 not out against Ballina Bears in the Far North Coast LJ Hooker League on Saturday.
Casino started the match missing three of its top batsmen, including openers Rodney Wells and Adam Shields.
And it didn’t get much better after a back injury meant Casino’s replacement opener had to be shunted down the order to No 7.
But according to Casino’s Sam Irvine, they still considered the total ‘gettable’.
“We got off to an OK start and we were 0-25, but we were never really in the hunt,” he said.
Irvine made a half century and several other batsmen made a start without going on with the job.
Casino’s capitulation was complete by the 39th of their 50 overs.
