Sydney Kings lock in young Aussie star

TOM Wilson has signed a two-year deal with the Sydney Kings, sources told foxsports.com.au.

The second year of Wilson's contract has a team option, sources said, with the Australian guard choosing the Kings over offers from teams in Germany and Croatia.

Wilson, who has captained an Australian under-17 and under-19 team, spent the second half of the 2017-18 NBL season on the Kings' training roster, after a contract dispute forced him out of KK Partizan.

The 20-year-old has a long history with Kings head coach, Andrew Gaze, playing under the basketball legend at the Melbourne Tigers, in SEABL competition.

Wilson's contract has NBA and European outs.

News of Wilson progressing to the Kings' main roster was first reported by Boti Nagy.

Wilson had a volatile college career, initially signing with SMU, before transferring to Boise State University. Before playing a game for the Broncos, the 6'4 guard opted to turn professional, starting his career in Europe.

Before beginning his college career, Wilson was a key member of Australia's U17 Men's team at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship, averaging 12.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, including a 23-point effort in the gold medal game against the USA.

At the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships in Greece, Wilson averaged 6.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, as Australia finished seventh.
