Tips to help the elderly

WITH an aging population on the Northern Rivers, it is becoming increasingly important for health care professionals to keep up to date with care and management techniques.

The Northern NSW Local Health District's Aged Care Network will this week host professional development sessions for staff.

Psychogeriatrics and dementia nurse practitioner Anne Moehead said the focus would be on frailty in older people.

"Presentations will include current national and international best practice in the management of functional, cognitive and emotional frailty of the older person," she said.

"Clinical leaders and researchers will discuss new and emerging practices within the context of evidence-based clinical care that achieves and influences excellence in patient outcome."

The conference starts on Thursday and continues on Friday.

The event will be held at the Ballina RSL.
