Tipitina Trio off to Japan
WHILE the focus this year may be teaching for Dylan Curnow, he's got a small trip to get through first.
Curnow is one part of the Tipitina Trio who are heading to Japan next week.
The trio is an offshoot of the Isabella A Capella Choir, of which Curnow is director, and features Georgina Pollard and Jesse Matthews.
The choir toured Japan last year raising more than $3000 for tsunami relief.
This year the tour includes 24 performances including stops in Tokyo and Hiroshima and even a spot on a Hiroshima morning show.
"The show reaches two million viewers so it's a real kick for us," Curnow says.
Curnow has performed to impressive audiences already including the Sydney Opera House and on The Footy Show.
On this tour the trio will also be performing at a United Nations function.
Last year's tour with the Isabella choir was sponsored by Southern Cross University, but at this stage Curnow says he hasn't had anything formal to either confirm or discontinue the sponsorship.
"It's still something that's unclear to me," he says.
To raise money for next week's trip the trio is performing at a house concert in McLeans Ridges tomorrow night.
Curnow is keen to put his piano degree to good use upon the trio's return and will head back to Tipitina Music Studios in Alstonville, the school he started with his partner three years ago.
After spending a lot of 2011 on the road, he's keen to focus on teaching.
"I'll always perform," he says. "I just want to shift the emphasis while the kids are growing up."
Tipitina Trio play at a house concert in McLeans Ridges tomorrow night to raise funds for their tour of Japan. Tickets $30. For more information call Dylan Curnow on 0425 241 049.
