Time to nominate people for an Australia Day award
NOMINATIONS for the 2016 Australia Day awards are now being sought by Lismore City Council.
There is only six weeks left to nominate a special person in the community, and Mayor Jenny Dowell urged people to do so before Christmas mayhem kicks in.
"Australia Day Awards are a very special thing to receive, but people must be nominated from the community, so we implore people to take 10 minutes and nominate someone," she said.
"Christmas is a busy time for most of us, so we encourage people to make their nomination now, before it all seems too hard and there's not enough time in the day.
"The awards are open to all sorts of people - volunteers, sportspeople or teams, artists, activists, community groups, cultural ambassadors or anyone you can think of who excels in their profession or as a person in our community.
"That's quite a potential pool when you think of all the amazing things people are doing in and around Lismore!"
Australia Day Award categories in 2016 are: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Aboriginal Citizen of the Year, Services in Community (Individual), Services in Community (Group), Sportsperson (Senior), Sportsperson (Junior), Sports (Team/Group/Organisation), Sustainable Environment and Art/Cultural.
Nominations close on 23 December 2016. Nomination forms are available on Council's website at www.lismore.nsw.gov.au or from the Corporate Centre at 43 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah.
