Timberjacks start with two wins

THE Far North Coast team began the Queensland Under-23 baseball carnival in Lismore with solid wins yesterday over North Queensland 13-3 and Met West 11-3.

The Timberjacks were bolstered by the last minute inclusion of Australian and Atlanta Braves minor league outfielder James Linger.

Today will be a test for the locals when they take on Brisbane South and Brisbane North.

Brisbane South yesterday defeated the highly favoured Gold Coast 12-5 and then accounted for North Queensland 11-0.

Gold Coast are one of the toughest sides in the tournament and with a 13-3 win over Brisbane North they looked the goods.

Brisbane North’s day did not improve, going down 7-3 to Met West.

The tournament will continue today at 10am.

Rex Airlines FNC Baseball will kick off its year with a junior sign-on tomorrow from 12 noon.

Baseball caters for all ages, with kids as young as five enjoying their first taste of the sport.

Equipment is available for all interested juniors to give it a try.

Interested players are invited to come and try, with lots of fun on offer for two hours on Field 4. Canteen facilities will be available.
