ORIGINAL STORY

ALTHOUGH there are storm warnings to the south of us, the Northern Rivers looks set for a more routine afternoon thunderstorm.

There is a 70% chance of showers during this afternoon and evening.

A thunderstorm likely during this afternoon and early evening. Light winds becoming northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h in the middle of the day then turning north to northeasterly in the late morning and early afternoon. Daytime maximum temperatures in the low to mid 30s.

A trough lies from the northwest of the state to the central part of the coast with a humid, unstable airmass and thunderstorms to its northeast.

The trough will be slow-moving today with further thunderstorm activity over the northeast third.

A cold front and a cooler, drier southwest to southerly change is expected to cross much of the state on Friday, reaching the northeast at night. Before a high pressure ridge develops over the state Saturday.
