Three on child sex charges
THREE men from the Ballina area have been charged with child sex offences allegedly involving a 15-year-old girl following a police investigation that extended over nine months.
In June last year Strike Force Bissenberger was formed to investigate alleged sex offences involving a child who lived within the Richmond Local Area Command's region.
The offences were alleged to have occurred in January last year.
Following extensive investigations by detectives the three men were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Just after midnight two men were arrested at a house in the Ballina area and about 1.30am a third man was arrested at his home.
All three were taken to Ballina police station where they were charged and refused bail.
Police charged a 39-year-old man with two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16.
A 37-year-old man and a 41-year-old man were each charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16.
Richmond Local Area Command crime manager Detective Inspector Greg Moore commended the work of the detectives involved.
"The Strike Force Bissenberger team has worked tirelessly to reach the point where we were able to make these arrests," Insp Moore said.
"It is a tribute to their dedication and skill that we have been able to put these people before the court."
The men appeared in Lismore Local Court on Saturday where they were refused bail to reappear at Ballina Local Court on Thursday.
