Super team claim third consecutive Bridge to Bridge title

ON A balmy Sunday morning on the Clarence River, Darren McGuire and his team aboard Superman set out to claim their own three-peat of wins in the Grafton Bridge to Bridge super class.

After their seamless, record-breaking run last year, they were short-priced favourites to do it again, but nobody expected them to do it in quite as big a way.

The team, including driver McGuire, observer Brad Armstrong and skiers Daniel Cotton and Daniel Graziano, were first to launch in this year's Bridge to Bridge. They got off to the perfect start with both skiers pushing hard off the line. Within 17 minutes, the team had rounded the buoy at the Harwood Bridge and were already on the long stretch back to the Crown Hotel.

In a great effort of skiing, the team crossed the finish line in 35.26.06, almost a minute faster than their record-setting run last year.

Big River Ski Club secretary Mark Stephenson said it was a fantastic effort by the winning team.

"We knew the conditions (yesterday) were made for a record-breaking run and that is exactly what we got," he said.

"They are the first boat since Showdown to win three Bridge to Bridge events in a row which is a fantastic effort."

Mr Stephenson said it was great to continually have top teams performing in the Bridge to Bridge event.

"It is great to have (Superman) back each year to compete in the super class. They are a great attraction for the spectators and Darren has been a great supporter of our annual event for many years now."
