Yes, you will get caught if you climb the Christmas tree

LISMORE Police are warning late night revellers to stay clear of the recycling Christmas tree in Lismore CBD after three people were issued with fines over the weekend.

On Sunday morning two 19-year-old females were caught attempting to climb the tree and were issued infringement notices for trespassing.

At 2.30am on Sunday morning a 20-year-old Lismore male was seen trying to climb the tree and was also issued a fine for trespassing.

All three were intoxicated, police said.

Senior Constable David Henderson from the Richmond Local Area Command Crime Management Unit warned there is a live feed from the Christmas tree to the Lismore Police Station and that climbing the tree would not be tolerated.

"The Christmas tree is there for the community to enjoy. However, climbing the tree is a dangerous act and we are taking decisive action," he said.

"Council has erected a sign and we expect people to respect this and just use common sense. The last thing any family wants is someone being injured just before Christmas."
