Nimbin Mystic Festival offers clarity in the new year
PALM and tarot readings, remedies, jewellery and art are some of the highlights of the Nimbin Mystic Festival.
The annual three day fair began today and runs until 6pm on Monday evening.
Organiser and tarot reader Jazmin Theadora said it was a time of year for people to get to the root of issues in their lives.
"At the moment the sun is in Capricorn and the moon is in Libra, waning," she said.
"It's a time to get to the basis of everything.
"I've had two readings this morning and they were all about getting rid of fear and indecision in their lives.
"We show people what's coming up in 2016 for them," Ms Theadora said.
Alexandra Sathe travelled from Brisbane this morning to sell Liquid Crystals at the Mystic Festival.
"They are remedies that help with the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels of a person," she said.
"They teach the minerals that exist in your bloodstream to be in balance."
Palmist of 15 years Ian Cameron, from the Central Coast, has returned for his third time.
"There's always people in the community who need that reassurance, and also to think outside of what they usually think," he said.
Mr Cameron and his wife, Joanne, travel up and down the coast together providing their services at festivals.
Sequin artist Jenny Love returns every year to support the festival and display and sell her own art.
"They (wall hangings) take me about two days to make," she said.
"Mostly it's handmade recycled wool and cotton .... some of them are made with material you can't find anymore."
The Nimbin Mystic Festival has been running for several years.
Ms Theadora said the 1973 Aquarius Festival is what shaped Nimbin and influenced today's annual Mystic Festival.
"Aquarius is a very important sign - it's a sign of altruism and self-love."
"The Aquarius Festival is what made this area what it is today ... we work for Aquarius to do this show," she said.
Ms Theadora has been a psychic and tarot reader for almost 50 years.
She said one of her greatest joys was to help others turn their lives around.
The Nimbin Mystic Festival is being held at the Nimbin Town Hall on Cullen St.
Entry is by gold coin donation.
