Man dies in boat accident: Ballina

FOUR people were rescued from a capsized boat in the Richmond River at Ballina while another two boats capsized at Evans Head. Unfortunately, a man rescued from the Ballina incident died just after 2pm.

Police and paramedics responded to the boat which capsized at Ballina while crossing the bar in the river mouth at about 2pm.

Three people were rescued while clinging to the boat.  It is understood two people were on-board the boat when it over-turned.

One person was picked up by a boat and taken to the Fawcett Street boat ramp where he was expected to be picked up by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.

A separate incident occurred at 2.30pm at Evans Head when two boats capsized while attempting to cross the bar, one going out to sea, the other coming back to shore.

It is believed that two people are also involved in that accident. Both are accounted for. It is believed one person was seen by paramedics and transported to hospital.

It is possible that Westpac Life Saver will head to the Evans Head roll-over as well.
