THISTLES' finals chances in Far North Coast premier league soccer have been boosted by a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Workers at Richards Oval, Lismore.

Thistles grabbed all three competition points thanks to goals from Oscar Stahl, Luke Virtue, Jai Wilson, Nathan McCann and a Workers own goal.

Thistles coach Chris Hunt was delighted.

"That was our best performance of the season,” he said.

"The intensity was great, we kept going for 90 minutes, we were mobile, we knocked the ball around well - I'm really happy with that performance.

"If we keep playing like that we'll keep winning games; if we keep winning games we'll give ourselves every chance to play finals football.”

Workers coach Wayne Mortimer was proud of the effort shown by his depleted squad.

"Obviously tonight wasn't a great performance from us,” he said.

"We had a few out but full credit to to the lads who played.

"A couple of them had to back up from reserve grade and they never stopped fighting.

"We'll pick ourselves up and keep going; we're confident of turning this around in the coming weeks.”

Richmond Rovers extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 5-2 win over Lennox Head at Skennars Head.

Lennox took an early lead through Matteo Ribechini before Rovers hit back with a Luke McWade double as well as goals to Jonathan See, Russell Dent and Shayne Smith.

Karl DeGroot scored the Sharks' other goal.

Third-placed Bangalow secured a 3-0 win over Italo Stars at Bangalow.

It was nil-all at half-time but Bangalow came out firing in the second half and took the points thanks to a Rory Devlin double and a strike from Josh Cole.

Goonellabah returned to winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Alstonville at Weston Park, Goonellabah.

Kaiden Powell scored a hat-trick and Tom Pitman grabbed the other goal in a commanding win for the Hornets.

League leaders Byron Bay recorded a 6-0 victory over Casino at Colley Park.

Sam Shepherd led the way for the Rams with a hat-trick and there were goals too for Sam Owens, James Tomlinson and Hari Scott.
