This one’s for you, Dad: Paul Nipperess wins at Lismore meet
IT was an emotional win for Paul Nipperess when Skysail took out the Sidney and Hacking Plumbing Maiden Hcp (1300m) at the Lismore Turf Club TAB meeting on Saturday.
Nipperess has just taken over from his father and renowned local trainer Kevin Nipperess, who died a fortnight ago.
Paul has had his own health issues over the years but looks set to stay on for at least 12 months.
The race also completed a winning double for Ballina jockey Chris Maund, who rode Best Shot ($11) in an earlier Maiden.
Meanwhile, Daniel Bowen had a win with five-year-old gelding Indigo Jade ($3 equal favourite) in the $8000 Trinity Lismore Cup Benchmark 50 (1200m).
He is the son of long-time Ballina trainer Danny Bowen, who died last year.
Indigo Jade has now won consecutive races at Lismore with three wins from its past 14 starts.
There is a short turn-around for local racing witha TAB meeting at the Ballina Jockey Club tomorrow.
The day will start with the Vale Kevin Nipperess Three-year-old Maiden Plate.
Paul Nipperess will have five-year-old St Edition in the $15,000 Fiorente Benchmark 60 Handicap (1600m), the fourth race.
St Edition last won at Ballina in July 2013.
Ballina has another TAB meeting next month before the Casino Cup is run on August 15.
