Thirsting after perfect location

WHEN VB marketing executives went searching for the perfect place to film a new beer commercial, they found it at Coolangatta.

Rainbow Bay Surf Life Saving Club on Wednesday closed its doors to punters to become the set for the Victorian beer giant's latest television advertisement.

Victoria Bitter group marketing manager Paul Donaldson said his company wanted a place typical of Queensland and with its sun, sand and surf Rainbow Bay was the ideal location.

“Queensland is such an important market for us and the brand is doing really well up here, so we are just looking to continue that growth,” he said.

The ad was the first from VB since its 'beer symphony', which features the VB theme song played with beer bottles.

With a pristine location and a crew of people who had previously worked on films such as The Lord of the Rings and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the ad already had the elements to become a success.

However, beer-lovers will have to wait until it screens late this year to find out its plot, with Mr Donaldson remaining tight-lipped.

“It will be on air before Christmas,” was all he would say.

The crew filmed at Coolangatta for most of the day and will now move on to other Gold Coast locations today and tomorrow.
