Thieves target Wardell club

COWARDLY thieves have broken into the shed belonging to the Wardell Sports and Recreation Club and stolen a number of items.

The incident wasn't discovered until Friday morning a week ago when the maintenance man came to mow the lawns and found the toolbox, with $1100 worth of tools in it, missing.

"This is the first time anything like this has happened," a spokesman for the club said.

"They also took a brushcutter and whipper snipper worth about $800."

The spokesman said the club ran on an honesty system where people paid to use the club's facilities.

"The money from that goes to the trust that runs the club and that's how we buy the equipment we need to maintain the grounds," he said.

"By stealing this equipment the thieves have stolen from the community."

Anyone with information regarding these stolen items can ring the police or the Wardell Sporting and Recreation Club on 6683 4437.
