Thieves target vulnerable elderly victims

POLICE in New South Wales have condemned the actions of thoughtless thieves who preyed on vulnerable elderly victims in two separate attacks at the weekend.

A 63-year-old homeless man remains in a serious condition after he was allegedly stomped on and kicked unconscious by a young man in Kings Cross on Sunday night.

The vagrant was allegedly robbed of tobacco, a lighter and a small amount of cash before his attacker fled.

A 24-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, assault and breach of bail.

In Nowra, a 76-year-old man was on his daily walk when two teenagers pounced on him at an intersection and slammed his head into a concrete gutter before running off with his wallet.

When the victim cried for help, one of the teenagers returned and repeatedly kicked him.

The retiree was being treated for head injuries and lacerations on Monday.

Police were hunting two men of Caucasian appearance, described as being between 160-170cm tall and both wearing hooded jumpers.
