Thieves hit Lennox Head preschool

THIEVES broke into Lennox Head Community Preschool in the early hours of this morning, ransacking the premises and stealing a number of items.

The preschool posted details about the incident on the Lennox Wave Facebook page this morning.

"Unfortunately the preschool was broken into last night, the office ransacked and several things stolen including a laptop," the post said.

"Luckily we no longer keep cash on the premises but I was hoping you could please post something on Facebook to let people know and also if they see or hear anything if they could please let Ballina Police or the preschool know.

"It's extremely upsetting to think people would steal from not only the preschool but the whole community - being a community run preschool everything we have is the community's."

Ballina police Sergeant Dave Longfield said an alarm on the preschool on Mackney Lane was activated at 1.52am which was reported to the police assistance line.

"Ballina police attended the scene and then forensic officers attended the preschool this morning," he said.

"Officers conducted a canvas of the area and a scene examination during which forensic officers collected a number of pieces of evidence.

"Police will be making further enquiries into the incident."

Anyone who saw people in the vicinity of Lennox Head Community Preschool overnight is urged to call Ballina police on 6681 8699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
