Local hockey player to shine in World Cup

SIX Far North Coast men's hockey players have been selected to play in the Masters World Cup to be hosted by Australia in April-May next year.

It comes after their performances at the national tournament in Cairns.

Adam Byrnes (Ballina) was has been selected in the Australia Over-35s team; Scott Hamilton (Ballina) in the Over-40s; David Brown (Coraki) and Grant Smith (Ballina) in the Over-45s; Neil Chaseling (Ballina) in the Over-55s; and Paul Leadbeatter (Northern Star) in the Over-60s.

Two Far North Coast women's players were also selected following their recent national tournament in Brisbane.

They are Janelle Pittman (East Lismore) in the Over-45s and Helen Rankin-Jarvie (Ballina) in the Over-45s.

Former Far North Coast player Brad Mathers, who now lives in Brisbane, was also selected in the Austral-ian Over-40 men's team.
