Cudgen and Tweed Coast Raiders re-enter the NRRRL

CUDGEN and Tweed Coast Raiders will return to Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League, making it a 12-team competition in 2015.

Both clubs received the stamp of approval at the NRRRL annual general meeting at the Lismore Workers Club on Monday night.

"It's all confirmed now and both clubs are confident they can be a success," NRRRL president Brian Rix said. "They are recruiting heavily and are excited to be in the competition.

"I think Tweed Coast have picked up some Bilambil players and both clubs have entered three grades."

Cudgen and Tweed Coast have not played in the NRRRL since 2011.

Tweed Coast has been playing second division on the Gold Coast while Cudgen has had mixed results in the top grade.

Bilambil did not apply to enter the competition despite proposed changes to the Country Rugby League borders.

Under the restructure, all rugby league clubs in New South Wales are expected to play in NSW competitions.

Bilambil has indicated from the beginning that it would prefer to stay in the Gold Coast-Tweed competition.

South Tweed was in the mix to join the NRRRL but will now aim to be included from 2016.

The NRRRL will not take Bilambil as a 13th team next season.

"As far as we're concerned the deadline for that was the AGM," Rix said.

"I can definitely say we won't be running a 13-team competition."

The NRRRL management team hopes to have a meeting with coaches and referees to address dissent issues before the season starts.

The 2014 competition had a string of dissent charges involving players, officials and supporters.

Rix is president for a fifth consecutive term with Richard Fleming added to the management team for next season.

NovaSkill is the major sponsor and committed for at least two more years.
