Celebrity snaps up Byron home

BYRON Shire proves it still has celebrity magnetism with TV heart-throb Simon Baker returning home to buy a $1.5m property in Nashua, as well as hosting a swag of celebrity sabbaticals this summer.

According to a number of anonymous sources, the former Ballina High boy bought a historical homestead on Nicholson Lane. The 6.8ha riverside property is said to have a pool and tennis court.

While Byron celebrity-spotters banked on catching a glimpse of The Mentalist star visiting his mum in Lennox Head for Christmas, no one anticipated he’d be house-hunting.

It is not known whether Baker and Aussie actress wife Rebecca Rigg will relocate their family to the rambling homestead previously owned by Northern Rivers royalty, the Scarabelotti family.

Just don’t expect Baker’s removalist truck to arrive any time this week. He is expected to be presented with a G’Day USA award in LA along with Toni Collette and Greg Norman.

According to The Northern Star’s celebrity spotters, laconic Aussie actor Bryan Brown was seen dining at the Bangalow Hotel while Logie-winning TV presenter Tom Williams, of Dancing With The Stars fame, was seen in The Rails at Byron Bay.

Also spotted rubbing shoulders with locals at The Rails these holidays was whale activist and famous little-sister Mimi Macpherson.

Home and Away beauty Jodi Gordon, who made headlines for all the wrong reasons after the cocaine-fuelled bikie bust in July, was spotted doing some restrained shopping at an upmarket boutique in Byron Bay with her mother who replaced ex-boyfriend media heir Ryan Stokes on her arm.

Hamish Blake, of the Hamish and Andy comic duo – the bloke not dating Megan Gale – was also seen out and about in Byron last week.

The Bay also welcomed back its singing son, Australian Idol winner Stan Walker, who was spotted at Lennox Head, presumably while visiting his singing brother Ray Walker.

In December, Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale was spotted around Byron Bay and is reportedly set to permanently embrace the 2481 postcode.

While Paris Hilton hinted about choosing Byron Bay for some R&R via Twitter last month, there has yet been no sign of the fame-flirt.
