The pick of our local sports crop for November

Red-hot Ryan

Former Evans Head squash player Ryan Cuskelly showcased some great form throughout November.

He reached the semi-finals of the Qatar Classic after winning the $35,000 Bluenose Classic in Canada.

Cuskelly is the first men's player in 15 years to come through qualification and progress to the semis of a PSA World Series tournament.

The 28-year-old is surging towards a career-best ranking and hopes to crack the top 16.

Lisa honoured

Lismore product and former national women's soccer representative Lisa Casagrande was inducted into the Football Federation Australia (FFA) Hall of Fame this month.

The Hall of Fame acknowledges players who have made a sustained contribution to Australian soccer.

Casagrande played juniors with Goonellabah before making her debut for the Matildas aged just 14.

She played in two World Cups and became the youngest player (aged 20) to reach 50 international caps, finishing with 64 international appearances and 13 goals.

Tons of fun

Marist Brothers captain Brad Cleaver had plenty to cheer about when he scored his first century in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket.

Cleaver was unbeaten on 102 when his side beat perennial powerhouse Ballina Bears. He also claimed bragging rights over older brother Luke Cleaver who plays for Bears.

Tintenbar-East Ballina all-rounder Abe Crawford scored 106 when his side beat Lennox Head at the weekend.

Jai on a high

Australian champion Jai Stephenson took out the V8 Dirt Modifieds Lord Mayor's Cup at the Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway.

The opening fixture was watched by a big crowd at the Lismore Showground.

Stephenson was all conquering in the main event and never eased off the pace once he hit the lead.

He recorded the fastest lap of the 30-lap event when he clocked a blistering 13.536 seconds on the final circuit.

Danny delivers

Former World Championship Tour surfer Danny Wills was a standout at the Australian Boardriders Battle qualifying round in Yamba.

Wills helped Byron Bay finish second and earn a place in the national final at Cronulla in two months.

Byron is the only local club to advance with the event the country's biggest grassroots boardriding competition.
