Emotional rollercoaster for Rachel Antonio's parents

THE parents of Rachel Antonio had sat through 10 days of an inquest into her disappearance and suspected death and there is still more to come.

Cheryl Antonio said she found it emotional listening to Robert Hytch speak about her missing daughter.

"When they were bringing up (details) about Rachel and Robert... I found those things very emotional," she said.

Hearing Mr Hytch give evidence had been the hardest day of the inquest for Mrs Antonio.

Outside court yesterday Ian Antonio said he was surprised Robert Hytch denied having a relationship with Rachel.

Numerous witnesses have given evidence they knew or had heard the pair were involved sexually.

The pair have sat, surrounded and supported by family, through the evidence of 50 witnesses.

"We didn't know she was so active in the community," Mr Antonio said.

"We thought we had a pretty good rein on her... we thought we knew where she was most of the time."

Regardless of that, Mr and Mrs Antonio said Rachel did not deserve what happened to her.

Barrister Harvey Walters, for Robert Hytch, said based on the evidence of Geoffrey Howie, which was given yesterday, it would be in the interest of the inquest to call another witness to give evidence, who said Rachel had come into his store with two girls.

The focus and assumption had been that Rachel went missing from Queens Beach, if that was incorrect it explained why other avenues weren't pursued if she'd met with foul play, Mr Harvey said.
