Too soon: Readers stunned at early Easter treats

THE festive season is barely over and major supermarkets are already preparing for the next big celebration.

Christmas decorations have just been packed away and shoppers can already buy Easter eggs and hot cross buns from Woolworths and Coles.

We asked our Facebook followers if they thought it was too early to sell Easter goodies and received a mixed reaction.

With more than 70 comments on the post, readers were quick to share their thoughts.

The common view was that it was far too early but some readers said it was expected.

Kelly Proellocks said supermarkets should wait a month or two to stock Easter treats.

"It's way too early for them to be in the shops. Surely they could wait until late February or the first week of March," she said.

Rebecca Velt took the view that we shouldn't really be surprised.

"Come on... the supermarkets have been doing this for years."

Mum-of-one Larissa Auld said while her daughter Allira was excited to see Easter eggs in store, she wasn't as pleased.

"Bringing Easter eggs into the stores so soon after Christmas makes children forget and overlook the true meaning of these celebrations, whatever that may be to each family," she said.

Cadbury's creme eggs, packets of mini eggs and chocolate Easter bunnies are among the chocolate delights already available to buy.

Easter Sunday is March 27.
