A LOCAL public school has stepped up to the plate once again to take on the challenge of The Northern Star's Adopt-A-Family appeal.

The Channon Public School has been 'adopting' a family for several years now, living up to their school motto 'The small school with a big heart,' working together through the project to ensure that everyone has the chance to have a truly merry Christmas.

Parent Kerrianne Cawley said that it began just taking a small amount of money and putting it to a better use, providing children just like their own students, with a feeling of something special over the silly season.

She said it was great to see the children begin to understand the concept of giving and helping those in need.

The Adopt-A-Family appeal is a chance for anyone to support members of your local community who are dealing with extreme financial hardship, lifting them up with the true spirit of Christmas, donating presents, hampers of food, or anything to spread the Christmas joy, just like this small school has been doing.

The Adopt-A-Family appeal invites everyone to join together in making sure everyone in Northern Rivers has a truly merry Christmas
