Grammy nominated Kendrick for Bluesfest 2016

THE 2016 Grammy Award nominations were announced recently and many of those up for awards have performed on the Northern Rivers this year or will perform here soon.

Bluesfest 2016 artist Kendrick Lamar led the pack of nominees with a mind-blowing 11 nominations.

Kendrick Lamar's 11 nominations for the 58th Annual Grammys has only ever been beaten by one artist, Michael Jackson, who received 12 nominations following the release of Thriller in late 1982.

Winners will be announced at the annual Grammy Awards in February 2016.

Kendrick Lamar, who will be closing the main stage on the opening night of Bluesfest on March 24, has been nominated for the following awards:

  • Album of The Year for To Pimp A Butterfly
  • Song of The Year for Alright
  • Best Rap Performance for Alright
  • Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for These Walls
  • Best Rap Song for Alright
  • Best Rap Song for All Day, a collaboration featuring Kendrick Lamar
  • Best Rap Album for To Pimp A Butterfly
  • Best Music Video for Alright
  • Best Music Video for Bad Blood, Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar
  • Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance for Bad Blood, Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar
  • Best Dance Recording for Never Catch Me, Flying Lotus featuring Kendrick Lamar

Fellow Bluesfest 2016 artists also in the running for a 2016 Grammy include D'Angelo with three nominations including Record Of The Year for Really Love, Best R&B Album for Black Messiah and Best R&B Song for Really Love.

Jason Isbell received two nominations for Best Americana Album for Something More Than Free and Best American Roots Song for 24 Frames.

Rhiannon Giddens was nominated for Best Folk Album for Tomorrow Is My Turn and Jeff Tweedy from Wilco, was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album for Star Wars.
