Tennis: Moore success for Brendan at Coffs Easter Open

LISMORE tennis player Brendan Moore added another trophy to the cabinet when he won the Easter Open at Coffs Harbour on Monday.

Moore came from a set down in the final to beat 16-year-old Brisbane player and No 3 seed Will Maher 4-6 6-2 6-2.

"Will is one of the top up-and-coming juniors so I knew it was going to be a tough match," Moore said.

"You go into every tournament expecting to play tough matches and this was no different."

He also made the final of the open men's doubles with Caleb Maxted before they were beaten by Ciaran Lavers and Jason Taylor 6-3 7-6.

Moore spends most of his time coaching these days but has had some impressive wins on the court in Australian Money Tournaments this year.

He went into the record books when he won the Ballina New Year Open for a third time in January.

American Yuki Chiang won at Ballina and also took out the open women's event at Coffs Harbour.

She dominated the competition and beat No 3 seed Lisa Mays 6-0 6-3 in the final.

More than 220 players took part in the tournament with matches played at Coffs Harbour and Sawtell.
