Ten Things To Do This Week

1. Casino Beef Week: Beef week ends with a bang, with traditional events such as the Street Parade and Mr Beef, plus new events such as the Fitness Challenge. This Saturday alone the program features the Beef Expo, the Car Show'n'Shine, the Woodchop Competition, the Orchid Show and the Whip Cracking Competition.

2. Our Kids Winter Ball: Bow ties, faux fur, jewellery and the best of the best in Lismore's closets comes out for this black-tie event to benefit Our Kids. The event will include the Ray White Rubber Duckies Draw, the Chocolate Eternity Diamond to win, plus a gold and black Balloon Jack-Pop with $8000 worth of prizes, plsu an auction ofefering a meal with Kevin Hogan at Parliament House, among others. 3. Byron Bay Seaside Scavenge: Help clean the beach and trade the litter you collect for tokens to purchase funky second-hand clothes, shoes, jewellery, books and more at a market. Spice up your Saturday with some scavenge action. With one cigarette butt contaminating the surrounding 50L of water, that's just one reason to get your hands in the sand. Plus, the trash you collect becomes the currency to 'buy' pre-loved goods at a market that will be set-up on the beach. For every 10 pieces of litter you pull from the beach, you'll receive a token that can be traded for funky threads, dog-eared books or some slick new kicks. At Byron Bay's Main Beach this Saturday from 9 am to 1pm.

4. Fibre Festival: The Blue Knob Farmers Market Fibre Festival is an annual event held in the grounds of Blue Knob Hall Gallery the day after the Gallery's annual Fibre Exhibition opens. Fibre speakers schedule starts at 9.30am. Enjoy local craft stalls, children's activities, crochet, basket weaving, finger knitting & rope tying. There will be a clothes swap, so bring clothes for swapping or refashioning. Win a complete set of Golden Hands craft magazines in the raffle. At the Blue Knob Farmers Market, 719 Blue Knob Road, Blue Knob, this Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Free event.

5. The Zorba Mini Gypsy Festival: A day and evening Gypsy and World music mini festival with live music, dance, food, poetry, bellydance, body art and face painting. All Ages. At the Durrumbul Hall, Cooper Ln, Main Arm, this Saturday from 3pm until midnight. $25. All ages welcome.

6. Bob Dylan 75th Birthday Tribute Concert: Celebrate the 75th birthday of Bob Dylan at this fundraiser for 7 Sibley St and the Nimbin School of Arts Hall. Featuring Willy McElroy, Phil Levy, Sarah Stando, Jolanda Moyle, Fintan Callaghan, Ewan James, Matin Preedy, Peter Bereza, Karen Connors, Jimmy Dowling and more. The Verandah Cafe will be open from 7pm. At the Nimbin School of Arts Town Hall, 47 Cullen St, Nimbin, from 7pm. $15.

7. Byron Circus Arts Curryoke: A fundraiser by non for profit Friends of the Circus, the Curryoke will including a curry, a silent auction, entertainment from the Bollywood Sisters, the Circus Arts Performance Troupe and Circus Arts Ensemble, and a karaoke for all. At Circus Arts, 17 Centennial Circuit, Arts and Industry Park, Byron Bay this Saturday from 6pm. $25.

8. Rainforest Botanic Gardens Open Day: The Friends of Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens are holding an open day to mark the Australian & New Zealand National Botanic Gardens Day this Sunday. Take a self-guided walk in the Gardens using some of the brochures available to assist you, or choose an organised activity. From 10 am: Explore the new walk through the Hoop Pine Forest, or take a small stone to the top to help build a new labyrinth. At 10.15am: Teddy Bears Picnic in the Forest. Bring your favourite teddy. From 11am, official Opening of the new Hoop Pine Forest Walk. 11:10. Guided walk of Wilson's Park Rainforest Species Garden. Morning tea stall by Clunes Pre-School. Gas BBQ available. Come along to the Gardens on the northern boundary of the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre in Wyrallah Road between 10am and 12pm.

Hugh Mackay presented by Byron Writers Festival: Hear one of Australia's most widely respected authors, social researcher Hugh Mackay talk about his new book, Beyond Belief: How we find meaning, with or without religion. At a time when around two-thirds of Australians say we believe in God or some 'higher power' but fewer than one in ten Australians attend church weekly, Mackay tackles one of the big questions about contemporary Australia: how do we find our sense of meaning and purpose when religious faith and practice are in such sharp decline? The Space Cowboy: Inspired by the great thinkers of the past and present in the field of psychological persuasion and mind reading, Byron Bay's The Space Cowboy performs some of the most direct and precise thought reading demonstrations that can be found in the world today. The holder of 38 Guinness World Records, he is also leading the frontier of extreme performance. Experience his death defying stunts of sword swallowing and much more pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible. The Space Cowboy's live show combines these two elements, what the mind can conceive, the body can achieve. At the Star Court Theatre, 126 Molesworth St, Lismore, on Friday, June 3, from 6pm. $25.
