Tempers fray at roadworks

ROADWORKS on the Bruxner Highway outside the Media Centre at Goonellabah has been causing trouble on and off the roads today.

As the heat of midday sizzled and the hold ups carried on, tempers flared and drivers began taking things into their own hands.

Some drivers had been seen abusing the lollipop men who are controlling the traffic, while more than 20 cars were seen making off-road manoeuvres, abandoning the road and cutting across the grass outside The Northern Star building.

For a period of time around noon these cars, most of them not 4-wheel-drive vehicles, dodged trees, fences, carparks and satellite dishes to take their cars across the grassy mounds of the property.

This caused a secondary traffic jams on the grass at some points.
