Telstra scam warning

DODGY traders posing as Telstraemployees or contractors appear to be contacting Northern Rivers residents, Telstra has warned.

The company yesterday issued a warning to residents on the NSW North Coast after customers complained of receiving ‘misleading or suspicious’ calls and visits from people saying they were ‘closely affiliated’ with Telstra.

The telemarketers and door-to-door sales people were telling customers, among other things, they were taking over their contracts on behalf ofTelstra.

“If you’re feeling unsure, just say ‘no thank you’, as it is possible for unethical sales groups unrelated to Telstra to gain authorisation for the transfer of a telephone account, without a customer necessarily being aware,”Telstra NSW North Coast area general manager Michael Sharpe said.
