AT JUST 13-years-old, Teggun Orth could be the youngest business person in Airlie Beach.

Teggun's newly launched clothing label FanGirl designs started with "a dream, a piece of paper and a pencil, a love for [boy band] One Direction and the most amazing parents ever".

Last year, Teggun took her pencil and paper and started drawing t-shirt designs. She initially came up with 58 designs, which were whittled down to four. Teggun took them to her mother Kelli Medford, who agreed to be a mentor, but stressed she would not run her daughter's business for her.

Teggun signed a loan agreement with her mother for the money that would get her clothing business started. She scheduled meetings with fashion buyer and local businesswoman Lyn Gregson who also became a mentor and passed on useful information.

For an experienced eye over her final designs, Teggun went to Jo Sweeney of Zest Design. She came up with the name FanGirl Designs and drew a logo which award-winning illustrator Tony Hepburn tweaked to fit the websites she was building.

On December 23, 2012, Teggun's first run of 196 t-shirts arrived.

The brand was launched at the New Year's Eve markets in Airlie Beach where Teggun sold her first seven shirts.

On January 20, FanGirl Designs had its first fashion shoot with Whitsunday photographer Dan Mewing and Teggun launched her web-based promotion Fangirl of the month.

This month's FanGirl is none other than the sister of Zach Russel, a member of the X-Factor band The Collective. Teggun, who is very grateful to all those who have helped her on her way, says her aim now is to become better known and keep designing more t-shirts.

"I want to keep creating funky FanGirl t-shirts for people like me," she said.
