Teen wildcard sends Stosur on her way

TENNIS: Sam Stosur will not be able to repeat her 2011 heroics in the US Open, having been sensationally dumped out of this year's tournament in the first round by unheralded American teenager Victoria Duval.

The Aussie looked a shadow of the player who beat world No.1 Serena Williams to take the title two years ago, beaten 5-7 6-4 6-4 by the 17-year-old wildcard.

Duval, who spent her youth in Haiti before immigrating to the US with her family when she was eight, was playing in just her second major tournament, after losing in last year's US Open in the first round to another former winner, Belgian Kim Clijsters.

In a bad day for Australia, qualifier Casey Dellacqua and "lucky loser" Olivia Rogowska also were beaten.

Rogowska, given a late call-up after Japan's Ayumi Morita was injured, was humbled 6-0 6-0 by fourth seed Sara Errani.

Dellacqua was beaten 3-6 6-1 6-4 by Croatia's Ajla Tomljanovic.
