Inquest into teen suicide

IN Ballina today, a NSW coroner is examining the bullying and bashings a teenage boy was subjected to in the lead up to his suicide.

The 14-year-old Lismore High student, who cannot be named for legal reasons, died on July 25, 2008. More than 40 witnesses are expected to give evidence at the emotional inquest which is expected to run all week.

Counsel assisting the coroner, Peter Hamill SC, said a great deal of the evidence would concern the fact the boy was being bullied at school and on the internet, and that he was bashed at least twice in the weeks leading up to his death.
