Teen shot after hitting pedestrians escapes jail sentence

A TEENAGE boy, shot by police as he drove a stolen car through Sydney's red light district and mowed down pedestrians, has escaped a jail sentence but will remain behind bars on another charge.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be named, was sentenced to 18-months probation in the Bidura Children's Court on Monday.

Police shot the boy in the chest and his front seat passenger Troy Taylor in the neck after the car they were travelling with four others failed to stop during a pursuit through Kings Cross in the early hours of April 21.

A 29-year-old woman had been dragged under the car and another pedestrian hit on the footpath before shots were fired.
