Team under the pump

DAVEY Pumps will be without captain Luke Shay and all-rounder Mark Hoare in their clash with Barlows Bolt Barn in the Ballina Twenty20 cricket competition at Fripp Oval tonight.

Shay has a hamstring injury and Hoare has returned home to England for the Christmas holidays.

But Shay is confident his team can cover the losses.

"We have a few all-round-ers who can cover for us," he said yesterday.

"We've missed a few games because of the rain, so everyone is keen to get back out there."

Davey Pumps lost their opening and only game of the season against Barlows Bolt Barn in the first round in November.

Bolt Barn set a total of 128 and rain meant that Davey Pumps were given only seven overs to chase a reduced target of 87.

They fell just short with all-rounder Abe Crawford belting 49 not out.

"I'd expect Abe to put in a similar performance," Shay said.

"They batted well last time, but I didn't think we did too much wrong.

"If we bowl first again we'll just aim to take quick wickets and get rid of their top order."

The game is set down for 7.30pm, with Northern Star and Shaws Bay to play the earlier match at 4.30pm.
