Team has lots to crow about
BALLINA product Mitchell Aubusson achieved another milestone when he captained the winning Sydney Roosters team at the NRL Auckland Nines at the weekend.
He played a vital role in the middle for the team and provided plenty of try-scoring opportunities for the likes of Latrell Mitchell and Chris Smith.
The Roosters proved too strong for Penrith Panthers, winning the final 10-4.
Aubusson, 29, was not a certainty to captain the young side with the likes of Queensland State of Origin second-rower Aidan Guerra and former Blues winger Daniel Tupou in the team.
The Roosters were not one of the more fancied teams to win the tournament but Aubusson was proud of their efforts.
"Not many people backed us to go any good in this tournament. I'm really proud of the boys and how we progressed,” Aubusson said after the final.
"You always want to win any footy game and the atmosphere is in incredible once you get here.”
Marist Brothers junior Paul Carter was also in the Roosters team in what was his first NRL appearance after he was sacked by South Sydney last year.
There will be no rest for Aubusson after arriving home from New Zealand, however, as he now goes into camp with the NRL All Stars.
He was called into the All Stars team for the Indigienous All Stars clash at Newcastle.
It is another feather in the cap after he played in the annual City v Country clash for the first time last year.
Aubusson will play his 11th straight season of NRL this year.
