Shave for a Cure at local tavern
WITH blonde, shoulder- length curls, Nadine Van Arendonk has hair that many women would envy.
But she’s going to get rid of it next month as part of World’s Greatest Shave, which raises money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
“I am feeling a bit nervous actually,” she said.
“But it’s all for a good cause and at least I have the choice to shave my hair off – cancer patients don’t.”
As the managers of the Goonellabah Tavern, Mrs Van Arendonk and her husband, John, are hosting a fundraising event on March 12 from 7pm to raise $10,000.
And they’ve got some high profile people to help, including Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell, councillor Neil Marks, Lismore MP Thomas George, several firefighters, police officers, paramedics, local business people, and farmers.
Cr Dowell won’t be getting the clippers out for this year’s Shave for a Cure, but she is still planning to raise money.
“I did think about shaving my hair off, but after losing it all when I had breast cancer, I just don’t think I could bring myself to do that voluntarily,” she said.
“But I’ll get acolour put in. I’ll go for pink.”
